Introducing SignStream Chat: Our Instant Messaging Translator for Sign Language
We’re excited to launch SignStream Chat, our new instant messaging translator that brings real-time text to sign language translation to anyone who needs it. Built on the success of SignStream, this AI chat translator lets users type a message and receive a quick sign language video in return.
No scheduling. No scripts. No delays.
SignStream Chat is designed for a simple purpose: to make it effortless to convert text to sign language, wherever it’s needed.
Type a Message. Watch It Come to Life.
At its core, SignStream Chat works exactly how it sounds. Users type a sentence into a chat-style interface, and Signapse’s AI translates it into sign language video. There’s no need to phrase things as a question or prompt - just type what you want translated and SignStream Chat does the rest.
This makes it one of the fastest available ways to translate words to sign language, whether for a single sentence or an ongoing conversation.
BSL, ASL and More Languages Coming Soon
SignStream Chat currently supports British Sign Language (BSL) and American Sign Language (ASL), with a selection of Digital Signers available. German Sign Language (DGS) is coming soon, which will extend SignStream Chat to reach more Deaf communities in Europe.
Free Access, With Pay-As-You-Go Flexibility
Signapse is committed to keeping accessibility tools within reach. Every user receives 60 seconds of free sign language translation each week, enough to translate multiple sentences and experiment with different Digital Signers.
For users who need more, SignStream Chat introduces pay-as-you-go credits. Users can top up credits at any time to create additional translations and download their videos, making it easy to scale usage up and down depending on need whether that’s occasional personal use or regular content creation.
Designed for Mobile
SignStream Chat has also launched with a mobile version, offering the same full functionality as the desktop experience with the same quick translation. On mobile, the user can send translations, watch results, rate them, buy credits and manage their account.
Download and Share Anywhere
Translations aren’t limited to the chat window. Once translated, videos can be downloaded in multiple formats, ready to be shared on social media platforms, embedded in content or used wherever sign language accessibility is needed.
Built with Feedback in Mind
Signapse has built feedback directly into the SignStream Chat experience, giving users several ways to help shape the tool as it grows:
- Star Ratings: Users are encouraged to rate individual translations out of 5 stars, giving quick, overall feedback on translation quality.
- Feedback Forms: For more detailed input, users can submit written feedback directly through the platform.
- Video Feedback: For issues that are more accurate to demonstrate than describe, users can submit video feedback, particularly valuable for capturing nuances in sign language accuracy that text alone can’t always convey.
This multi-format approach reflects Signapse’s broader commitment to developing its technology in close collaboration with the Deaf community, ensuring SignStream Chat continues to improve based on real-lived feedback from the people who use it most.

FAQs
Are the sign language translations quality-checked in SignStream Chat?
Because SignStream Chat generates translations in real-time, they aren’t reviewed by our translation team before you receive them. For this reason, we recommend SignStream Chat for informal and creative use cases rather than formal or high-stakes content.
That said, our sign language AI has been developed in collaboration with certified Deaf interpreters to ensure translation quality remains as high as possible. We know AI translation won’t always get it right, which is why SignStream Chat includes a built-in feedback system, so if a translation isn’t quite right, it doesn’t go unnoticed. Simply submit feedback though our form and our team will review and address it.
How much can I get with my free 60 seconds of sign language translation a week?
60 seconds is enough to generate multiple sign language translations, explore different Digital Signers, and try translating into more than one sign language. Your free 60 seconds replenishes every week, so you can keep using SignStream Chat at no cost.
Need more? SignStream Chat also offers a pay-as-you-go option, letting you buy additional credits to generate more translations and download your videos, ready to share with your audience.
Can I customise my sign language videos?
SignStream Chat is built for speed, so videos generated in the chat can’t be edited afterwards. If you’re looking for more control over your sign language content, including company branding, video-based translation and further customisation, take a look at SignStudio, our post-production sign language translation platform.
